The Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech) brings University of Maryland innovation and expertise to technology based entrepreneurial enterprises through its pioneering venture creation, development, and partnership programs. As Chief Business Officer, Daniel Carafelli oversees Mtech's extensive business operations, which include budget, finance, internal audit, purchasing, human resources, research administration, real estate, and facilities. Dan also holds an academic appointment as a Senior Research Fellow in the Supply Chain Management Center at the University's Robert H. Smith School of Business where his research focus is the historical and continuing development of the aviation, railroad, and maritime industries.
Dan Carafelli is a Certified Business Manager (CBM), a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.), and professionally certified member of the Insitute for Supply Management, National Purchasing Institute, and Airport Purchasing Group. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Financial Management (AAFM), an AAFM Board Certified Master Financial Professional (MFM), and three time graduate of the University of Maryland University College with a B.S. in Business and Management, BS in Computer Studies (Phi Kappa Phi), and Graduate Certificate in Financial Management. An avid transportation historian, Dan is also a member of the American Aviation Historical Society, National Railway Historical Society, and National Maritime Historical Society.
Lori Flees

Lori Flees is a partner in the Los Angeles Office. She joined Bain in 1996 and has worked in Bain's Boston, Sydney, Atlanta, and Los Angeles offices. Lori is a leader in Bain's Global Organization Practice with a focus on organization effectiveness and SG&A efficiency. Lori has consulted to aerospace and defense, industrial goods, technology, consumer products, and private equity companies on organization and performance improvement as well as strategy and M&A due diligence.
Prior to joining Bain, Lori worked at Intel Corporation and General Motors. At Intel, she managed two memory product lines for multiple telecommunications PC customer applications. At General Motors, she served in various sales and marketing roles in both the US and Europe. Lori earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School and is a graduate of GM Engineering & Management Institute, where she received a B.S. in Management Systems.
Michael Sprague

Michael Sprague is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He started his career in Litigation Consulting at Peterson Consulting and then worked at Arthur Andersen. While at other Arthur Andersen, he opened the Bucharest, Romania office, providing inward investment advice to well known multi-national clients of the Firm.
Upon graduating from the University of Chicago - Graduate School of Business, Mr. Sprague joined Ford Motor Company's sales and marketing division. He has held several marketing positions among the Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brands. Most recently, he was the General Manager for Global Brand Management for Mazda in Hiroshima, Japan. Currently, Mr. Sprague works in future product planning at Ford North America where he is responsible for selection and implementation of new in-vehicle technologies.

Richard Stinson’s professional career is a blend of business consultant, financial and computer systems auditor, educator, lecturer, entrepreneur, and management consultant. Richard’s consulting duties are focused on assisting clients with strategic business planning and performance measurement projects. He is also responsible for the firm’s knowledge management and intellectual capital initiatives.
Richard was a senior manager in the Finance Division of an international financial services company and the sole proprietor of Stinson CPA Review. Richard has also served as an adjunct faculty member of several colleges and universities. He is a CBM, a member of the CBM Exam Review Committee, a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and a Certified Public Account (CPA). He also serves on the AICPA Performance Measurement Task Force.
